I just want to register this note and say the the National Trust makes a
distincion between the interior and the exterior of a historic building.
One can secure a status of a building based on just an exterior or the
interior of a building. I do not know the details about the SF Library
but suspect that the whole building was a historic treasure. As the
construction of the Asian is progressing, it appears that they are
keeping the historic integrity of the exterior so that will probably
remain on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. It will be
interesting to have the facts. I am only aware of the controversy
sorrounding the murals.
