AASLH is offering the following internships this summer and fall.


AASLH offers 2000 Alderson Internship

The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) invites
applicants for the 2000 Alderson Internship. The intern assists the
programs division of the AASLH office in Nashville, Tennessee. Eligible
candidates will be graduate students currently enrolled in a degree
program in history, public history, museum or American studies, historic
preservation, or related field.

Internship duties will be as follows:

Update the AASLH Guide to Resources for History Professionals
Assist with the Annual AASLH Awards Program
Assist with the implementation of the new AASLH Workshop Series and
development of participant curriculum materials.

Internship will be for eight weeks during summer 2000, actual timeframe
to be determined. A stipend of $250.00 accompanies the internship.

Successful candidate will have:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word software
Working knowledge of the Internet and e-mail technologies
Strong written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of the public history field, especially professional issues

AASLH Offers Annual Meeting Coordinator Internship for the
2000 American Association for State and Local History (AASLH)
& Louisiana Association of Museums Annual Meeting

AASLH will join forces with the Louisiana Association of Museums at the
Radisson Hotel in
New Orleans, Louisiana, September 20 - 23, 2000, to host their 2000
Annual Meeting.  The 2000
AASLH & LAM Annual Meeting will bring together colleagues from all over
the United States and Canada to examine the theme, “It’s A Matter of
Trust:  The Past, The Present, and Historical Reconciliation.”
AASLH is accepting applications for an Annual Meeting Coordinator to
help in the daily duties of planning the annual meeting.  This paid
position is available mid-June – September, 15-20 hours per week as
needed.  Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Manage and organize meeting registrations and mailing of confirmation
letters
Handle calls regarding registration
Assist in compiling information for registration packets
Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule volunteers at the
meeting
Assist in exhibit hall planning
Assist in preparing correspondence and mailings
Assist in ordering products for the meeting
Enter meeting and session evaluation information in the computer and
prepare the post meeting statistics
If available, attend conference and assist staff as needed.
(Registration would be complimentary.)

The position offers students an opportunity to become familiar with
colleagues and organizations within the history and museum community.
