        Subject: benefits of websites

I have just joined the museums list and have two requests for help.

I'm doing a consultancy at the moment in Australia, a website
scoping study. The clients are a major historic site. They want to know how
museums are making use of their websites, based on research information, and
what benefits museums gain from websites. I've read material from the web
conferences, but if anyone has more research about this, or comments from
their own experience, I'd really appreciate it.

The second request is for advice on good people to visit in the US
early next year. I am developing new kinds of visitor /web research based
on audience ethnographic approaches. I have a Fulbright Award and I'd like
to know who are the people in the US who are doing some good things in this
area?

I'm particularly interested in audience development, and the
relationships you can build between on-site and online visitors. ( My
research background is in communications research, kids and television).

        Many thanks,

        Patricia.
