I would like to tell you about my strangest museum
experience. It was December 1986, and my uncle and I
took a road trip to the Neil Armstrong Museum in
Wapakonetta, OH. When we arrived at the museum, we
discovered that the museum was closed during the
winter. Luckily, my uncle had a map of Ohio and we
searched the map for an interesting city or historic
site to visit and we decided to take a chance on the
Allen County Museum.

When we arrived at the museum we were impressed by
their various collections dealing with local history,
etc. We made our way to the lower level of the museum
where a docent was explaining an Asian statue to a
couple of visitors. We could not see the docent
because he had his back turned to us but we listened
anyway. The gentleman pointed out to the visitors that
the statue did not have a left hand because if you
committed a murder in certain parts of Asia, your left
hand was cut off. As he was explaining that your left
hand was cut off for committing murder, he turned to
look at us and we both noticed that the gentleman did
not have a left hand (writers note: the guy was not
pulling a prank because he was wearing a short sleeve
shirt). My uncle and I ran for the door and made our
way home.
