Today's (3/28/00) New York Times reports that New York City Mayor Giuliani
has dropped his campaign against the Brooklyn Museum of Art. According to
the article, "Under the agreement, Mr. Giuliani promised to restore the
city's monthly payments to the museum and to drop, once and for all, his
efforts to evict it from a city building and remove its board of trustees
because of last fall's "Sensation" exhibition, which included a painting of
the Virgin Mary adorned with elephant dung."

"The museum, under the agreement, dropped its First Amendment lawsuit
against the mayor, who was scheduled for a deposition in the case as early
as this week. Mr. Giuliani, in turn, dropped his own suit in state court
that sought to evict the museum from its home on Eastern Parkway and remove
the board. The deal also resolved a lingering budget dispute that had been
put on hold during the months of acid squabbling."
