Dear Colleagues,
I'm overwhelmed. My sincere thanks to all who participated in the
20th century toy discussion. There have been over 90 responses from
the US and abroad. Special appreciation goes to those who also
contributed information on books and toy collections and those who
shared their thoughtful commentaries.

Toys are a common to all peoples in all times, however the homogeniety
of the American experience is always noteworthy, and your responses
confirm it.

Are you curious? Here is the quick and dirty, unofficial "Museum
People's Top Ten Toys:" (not is any order) Easy Bake Oven (that one
is a surprize to me), Monopoly, Hoola Hoops, Barbie dolls, Candy Land,
Erector sets, small cars (Hot Wheels, Matchbox), generic trains,
playing cards, and paper dolls. What does this tell you about museum
people?

I have always had a hands-on toy exhibit at this museum and it is the
most popular stop for new and repeat visitors of ALL ages. No wonder
at all.
