Adriaan,

I don't know of any museum work in this area, but a person I know who is
very museum oriented was a key research chemist on a project at Oregon
State University concerning producing and using oil from the seed of
what we call the 'meadowfoam' plant (I don't know its scientific name)
which sounds like what you are looking for.  I know he would be
interested in providing any help and information that he could.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have email (though perhaps I could print it
out and mail it to him for you).  His mailing address is:
