THE ALUTIIQ WORD OF THE WEEK BOOKLET

Since June, 1998 the Kodiak community has been hearing the Alutiiq Word
of the Week broadcast over KMXT public radio. Soon after the first
lesson was aired, the museum developed fax and e-mail broadcasts, and
partnered with the Kodiak Daily Mirror on a weekly publication to meet
the demands of the requests for lesson copies. Also, internet browsers
can now find the lessons on the Museum*s web site at
http://www.alutiiqmuseum.com.

Now available at the Alutiiq Museum Store is the first volume of the
Alutiiq Word of the Week - Lessons in Alutiiq Language and Culture.
Created by popular demand, this paperback publication presents the first
year of lessons with a brief introduction to the Alutiiq people and
their language. The 72-page booklet contains 52 words presented with a
short Alutiiq sentence and translations. The lessons reflect the
traditional activities of the seasons in Kodiak and are designed to
provide readers with greater access to Alutiiq sounds and traditions.
Now you can own the first 52 Alutiiq Word of the Week lessons in
one booklet for the price of $12.00, ($10.00 for Museum members).

The Alutiiq Word of the Week was developed by Alutiiq Museum
Curator/Deputy Director Amy Steffian with assistance from Alutiiq
teacher Florence Pestrikoff, and Alutiiq speakers Emily Bojoli, Jenny
and Senafont Zeedar, and Linguist Jeff Leer.
Funding for the 1999-2000 season was provided in part by a grant from
Alaska Fund for the Future. You can purchase a copy of the Alutiiq Word
of the Week * Lessons in Alutiiq Language and Culture at the Alutiiq
Museum, located at 215 Mission Road.
