JOB SUMMARY The Museum Program Specialist seeks to engage, celebrate and build community through Lakewood's museum programming. – The primary goal of the Museum Program Specialist is to expand museum audiences and increase revenue in a way that supports LHC's master plan and mission. The Museum Program Specialist creates educational opportunities that build on LHC's strengths by providing high quality programs and services to the community through developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating a wide range of museum programs. This position serves as a part of the Lakewood Heritage Center team within the Heritage, Culture and the Arts Division of the Department of Community Resources. The Museum Program Specialist also implements current programming that includes outreach trunk programs, story times and monthly arts, crafts and heritage programs. In addition, the position supports the implementation of on-site building tours and school field trips. The Museum Program Specialist position acts as a community liaison with City of Lakewood colleagues, local partners, schools, and businesses to further expand the reach of services provided. • Develop, coordinate and implement programs and services for diverse audiences that ensure quality standards are upheld and community needs are met • Maintain knowledge of current trends in museum programming and informal learning. • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills • Handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy • Develop curricula for a variety of museum program audiences that is meaningful, relevant, replicable and high quality. More specifically, create programs that: • Tie to core curriculum standards for elementary and middle school students • Are inclusive and appeal to a broad and diverse community • Establish and maintain positive relationship with educators and communicate with educators to create relevant educational programs • Maintain awareness of cross division and department program offerings and focuses on developing educational experiences that capitalize on LHC's focus and resources • In collaboration with LHC Curator, establish seasonal program schedule, convey related information to marketing, respond to inquiries and implements accordingly • Promote and advertise programs on multiple platforms including social media utilizing best practices established by marketing work group • Responsible for identifying and supporting the staff and/or consulting expert selection process including interviewing and selecting staff, ensuring that new staff receive necessary orientation and collaboratively training new staff • Oversee the variable staff performance review process and any corrective work plans • Ensure safety of program participants • Able to respond to emergency situations utilizing established protocol • Communicate with participants, group leaders and/or relevant family members (i.e. parents) regarding program orientation, participant progress, and other information, as needed • Maintain necessary forms, paperwork, records, program evaluations, participant numbers and other program indicators for program evaluation and continued growth • Ensure facilities are clean, set up for program prior to the arrival of participants, safe, and free of liability to the user • Reset facility space used for museum programs to original set up, return all program materials to proper location, ensure the space is ready for future use • Able to interact with others in a positive manner • Requires regular and prompt attendance • Supports the submission,and review of marketing materials for the seasonal activity guide, in addition to other forms of communication for the community • Complies with City, Department and Division policies, procedures and guidelines • Accepts special assignments and other duties on behalf of the Department •
