Hi Julia, Krista, et al-- We had Fossil 1/4" laminate panels installed inside our Visitor Center and outside throughout the park in January of 2007. The inside panels are still vibrant and fairly free of scratches. The outside panels have finally given up the ghost after 12 years (although they really should have been replaced after 10 years). The UV finish/top layer started peeling and curling in small spots after about the 9th summer. We tried prolonging those panels' lives by applying clear butcher's wax but they are now too faded and damaged looking. We have replaced those with printed aluminum panels applied directly on top of the Fossil panels. Those were just installed less than a month ago. We've been using the printed aluminum panels in some of the temporary waysides we have scattered throughout the park as well and have found that they last about 18 months if they are in direct sunlight, so they tend to survive two summers and an average winter in the midwest. However, a couple of big advantages we have noticed is that they are much cheaper to produce and only take about a week to complete with our local FedEx Office store. Our Fossil panels took over a year to produce and cost thousands each (please note: this was in 2005-2006 when we first ordered them and they were having major production issues for most of that. I'm hoping they've fixed that!). We've decided that we're willing to reproduce the panels more often in exchange for the flexibility to update the text, and the replacement speed. Hope this helps!
