The best way to store a sword is vertically, with ethafoam on the pointy-bits to avoid self-impalement. The hilts are usually not a worry, unless they are spiky, then they should also have bumpers. We have sword screens inherited from an armory that our swords and other pole arms are stored against, but I’m sure you can configure something for a painting screen.
You can store it in a box, but need to ensure that there are support points of contact along the blade in order to avoid flexing.
Another option is a gun case, retrofit to accommodate the sword profile rather than the gun profile.

I would be inclined to build a custom supporting stand out of ethafoam and corrugated board. Additional pieces of ethafoam can be placed at the corners and narrow edges to protect the hilt and the point.

Hello everyone!
I have a fencing sword that measures 47.5” in length and 12.5” in width at the hilt. I have looked at scroll boxes and large poster tubes from Hollinger but they aren’t wide enough to accommodate the hilt. I don’t want to just wrap them in tissue because I am worried about things hitting the hilt.
Any suggestions? Are there commercially available sword storage boxes?
