ICOM Executive Committee Alissandra Cummins Dear Alissandra, The board of ICOM Germany as well as the German ICOM Members are deeply affected by the terrible disaster caused by the Tsunami in South East Asia. ICOM Germany will certainly support the actions taken by the Executive Council. First of all we are touched by a human tragedy of unconceivable dimensions. But we also feel our professional responsibility to assist the countries hit by the floods to save and to restore the damaged and endangered cultural heritage, especially in the collections of the local museums. I think the manifold initiatives of help addressed to the Executive Council need coordination. So the Executive Council will probably in a first step to try to get a survey of the damages in cooperation with the national ICOM Committees and the cultural administration of the countries concerned. As soon as you are putting up an action plan, please let us now as soon as possible whether expert advice or other means of support may be contributed from ICOM Germany respectively from German ICOM members. In these days we feel more than ever as members of the international community of ICOM as an organization taking responsibility for the rescue and conservation of the cultural heritage of mankind.
