The German "begreifen", which means understand,is derived from "greifen",
which means "to take with the hands".

The tactile abilities are very important for the human beeing.

I understand your sorrows about the unintended destruction by visitors.

But I think: A good museum should have also objects with signs "please
touch".

Betreff: [MUSEUM-L] Please Don't Touch

I'm looking to steal someone's well-worded "Do Not Touch" label that
succinctly explains why touching an artifact is bad, preferably something
that addresses the human tendency to think "My [underline and italics here]
hands are clean."
