Internship, Department of Education and Programs 
Gaston County Museum of Art and History 
Fall 2018

Description:
The mission of the Gaston County Museum is to interpret the art and history of Gaston County and the region through education, preservation, and collection. The education intern will be an active member of the education department and will work closely with the Education Manager, Assistant Director, and other museum staff to develop and offer education programs and tours for onsite and outreach initiatives.  Interested undergraduate students or recent graduates who wish to pursue a career in museum education are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be comfortable speaking to large groups of diverse audiences, and prefer working as part of a team. 

Duties:
•	Greet visitors to the Museum, and lead tours of the Historic Hoffman Hotel and other Museum buildings
•	Lead school groups during onsite and outreach education programs. This often requires dressing in period clothing
•	Research historical topics related to programming and incorporate appropriate level curriculum in education programs 
•	Assist Education Manager and work with Collections staff to develop interactive education components for museum exhibits
•	Assist in organizing the Education Collection  
Learning Goals:
•	Gain hands-on experience of education planning and delivery in a museum environment
•	Develop and improve speaking and presentation skills for diverse audiences by engaging with the public on a daily basis  
•	Utilize research skills to apply k-12 curriculum and pacing guides to museum education  

Time Requirements & Location:
Intern will report to the Gaston County Museum of Art and History in Dallas, NC. Total hours for internship, and/or course credit will be determined by Assistant Director and Intern in conjunction with the Intern’s education institution.
