Job Summary
The City of Greeley Museums seeks a pro-active, creative, self-starting Curator of Historic Sites. The Curator is responsible for managing operations at three sites within the Greeley museum system. These include Centennial Village Museum, Meeker Home Museum, and White-Plumb Farm Learning Center. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing programming including but not limited to group and school tours, living history, special events, property rentals, and public outreach. They will develop inclusive, educational programs to engage a diverse range of museum visitors. The incumbent is responsible for the preservation and maintenance of historic structures and landscaping at the historic sites. Additionally, they prepare and implement annual goals and objectives as well as long-range plans. The Curator of Historic Sites manages a large team of both full time and seasonal employees, in addition to numerous volunteers. This position reports to the Museums Manager.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
•	Bachelor’s degree in history, public history, museum studies, education, or a closely related field from a four-year college or university; Or a combination of education and experience
•	Three (3) years’ experience managing staff and volunteers at a museum and/or historic site
•	Experience implementing interpretive and educational programming
•	Background in agricultural and landscaping practices preferred
•	Understanding of historic preservation principles and experience with structural maintenance 
•	Special event coordination experience preferred
•	Familiarity with historical agricultural practices preferred
•	Comfortability managing livestock and heritage animal breeds preferred
•	PastPerfect Museum Software experience preferred
•	Knowledge of Greeley, Weld County, and Colorado history preferred
•	Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Oracle
•	Valid driver’s license and good driving record
•	Candidates experienced in long-range planning will be given higher consideration
•	Candidates proficient in Spanish will be given higher consideration

Essential Functions: 
•	Manage the day-to-day operation of three historic sites
•	Prepare annual and long-range plans in conjunction with the Museums Manager
•	Manage an annual operating budget in excess of $426,000; Purchase supplies and equipment as needed; coordinate team budget cooperatively
•	Develop and maintain positive proactive relationships with other city departments, outside vendors, programming partners, and educational institutions
•	Help ensure that the museum system continues to strive for diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion with its programs, staff, and public interactions by serving the cognitive, physical, and social/emotional needs of diverse audiences
•	Develop, implement, and occasionally perform in virtual and in-person public programs, classes, and tours for all ages
•	Oversee the interpretive staff, educational staff, and maintenance staff
•	Coordinate event and staff schedules, and partner with other site operations staff 
•	Plan, develop, coordinate, schedule, and implement special events to reach existing and new audiences 
•	Support the volunteer program for the museum system by assisting recruitment efforts, placing volunteers in appropriate positions, and ensuring volunteers are properly trained
•	Prepare and implement a preservation plan for all structures
•	Oversee all preservation and structural maintenance for historic sites
•	Oversee landscaping and grounds maintenance efforts
•	Oversee the health and welfare of heritage breed animals at Centennial Village
•	Oversee management and utilization of the museum system’s Education Collection
•	Collaborate with Communications & Engagement staff to promote special events and programs
•	Consult with other staff and provide input and fundraising support for exhibits and capital projects
•	Serve on the Acquisitions Committee, Fundraising Team, Experience Team, and Emergency Preparedness Team
•	Will be required to work semi-frequent weekends and often have an irregular schedule

Physical Requirements:
•	Excellent communication skills to convey information to supervisor, other employees, and public of all ages and backgrounds
•	This position must use maintenance equipment such as ATVs, install event equipment such as large tents, and operate historical machinery such as printing presses for demonstrations 
•	The employee is occasionally required to traverse across site for 6-8 hours at a time
•	The employee must occasionally move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Work Environment
•	While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. 
•	The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud due to many people talking in an enclosed space.
•	Hazards associated with this position include encountering unknown substances, work on extension ladders, operating power machinery and working with farm animals.
