Ivo Maroevic 1937-2007

 

Museum community in Croatia and worldwide has received with deep feeling of
loss the news of passing away of Professor Ivo Maroevic on 20th January 2007. 

Professor Maroevic was a long time member of ICOM and an active member of
ICOFOM Committee. His background was history of art, museology and
protection of cultural heritage, especially architectural. In 1986 he was
one of the founders of study of museology at Zagreb University where he has
lectured since 1983. He was the author of 12 books and over 400 papers
dealing with museology, protection of cultural monuments, architecture and
urban planning. Professor Maroevic was a member and advisor of numerous
professional teams and commissions, among them Commission for Renewal of
Dubrovnk after the earthquake, Board for Renewal of Dubrovnik after the war
in Croatia, Croatian UNESCO Commission, Croatian Museum Council, Board of
Croatian National Committee of ICOM and Board of ICOFOM. He was also a
candidate for Executive Council of ICOM. For his work Professor Maroevic has
received many awards, among them Award of Croatian Museum Assocciation for
his life’s work. 

His extensive knowledge and erudition, his uncompromised views, as well as
his warm personality will be missed by many friends, students and
colleagues. His contribution to museology and protection of monuments was
outstanding and renowned,  and his active involvment in national and
international life of ICOM was greatly appreaciated by fellow members.
