CIPEG is pleased to invite you to attend the next annual meeting

Poznań, Poznań Archaeological Museum
1st - 4th September 2011

Theme: The Ethics of Collecting

We would like to discuss all different kinds of accessioning (by purchases
and gifts) and de-accessioning, as well as long-term loans and object
exchange. ICOM's Code of Ethics, as well as other codes of national museum
organizations give clear guidance concerning these matters. However, the
policies of the museums differ, and ethical problems can occur for many
different reasons such as

- insufficient due diligence or faked provenance information
- conflicts of interest of responsible or influential persons or
institutions (e.g. staff members, superior authorities, trustees, donors,
etc.)
- conflicts with special groups or individuals who claim ownership or
responsibility
- questions on the appropriateness for collection
- questions on adequate facilities to preserve and store the object
- states of emergency.

In combination with the meeting in Poznań and due to the close relation of
both collections there will be also a visit to the new permanent exhibition
of the Egyptian Department at the Neues Museum in Berlin at the 5th
September.
