COMMONWEALTH ASSOCIATION OF MUSEUMS

CAM GENERAL PROGRAM AND MEETING 2003

Theme:

MUSEUMS IN THE COMMONWEALTH:

GLOBAL VISION, LOCAL MISSION

Please Note New Dates: April 6-10, 2003

Hosted by National Museums Liverpool

Liverpool, U.K.

Increasing globalization affects all of us as individuals and organizations. As an international museum organization, CAM is concerned with the global picture as well as issues common to all museums. The meeting will explore four aspects of the theme:

what are the responsibilities of museums to look not only at museums concerns but at community, national and international issues

what are the most important issues at these four levels of interest

how does each museum work with global issues while maintaining local relevance and meaning

what role do Commonwealth museums have in promoting and contributing to Commonwealth vision and action and how do we do it

This is a four-day program based on presentations combined with participant dialogue and is intended to result in a better understanding of the local, national and international roles of museums and guidance in how to make decisions about them. Members and colleagues from both Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth countries are welcome.

Call For Papers

Papers are invited on topics relevant to the above theme and in particular on the general theme of why museums should be concerned with broader issues and on specific programs or activities which illustrate how museums deal with issues of concern in areas such as the following:

Preservation of World Heritage

Sustainability

Peace, Democracy, Good Governance and the Rule of Law
