Dear Colleagues,

As you all know, UNESCO has reduced by 60% the working area allocated to
non-governmental organisations and has requested them to move into another
building, Annex 6bis.

In view of the limited space allocated by UNESCO and the broad scope of the
projects under way, requiring additional staff, the Executive Council has
authorised the Secretariat to split up its offices and to find other
premises outside UNESCO that could temporarily house some of the staff. A
final solution should be found before the end of the year 2004.

At the same time, ICOM had requested UNESCO for some extra time so that it
would not have to move before the end of February 2003.

We are now in the process of preparing for this move and therefore wish to
draw your attention to the effects it will inevitably have on the
functioning of the Secretariat. The move is at present considered to be a
priority. Consequently, the ICOM services will be closed from Monday, 10
February to Friday, 21 February 2003 inclusive, in order to proceed with the
transfer of the present offices and the installation of the new ones.
The UNESCO-ICOM Information Centre will be closed until the end of March
2003.

I thank you in advance for your understanding.

Manus Brinkman
Secretary General
