Register today for ICOM-ASPAC 2015 Conference and General Assembly!

Register for this year's ICOM-ASPAC Conference and General Assembly in Iloilo City, Panay Island, Central Philippines from 3-7 December 2015. Members of ICOM's global network are encouraged to join the event that will also be attended by 24 member countries of the ICOM-ASPAC and colleagues from all over ICOM's global network. This event is an annual gathering of the national committee members, representatives , and guests of ICOM-ASPAC. About 200-400 participants are expected to join the conference. ICOM-ASPAC 2015 promotes ICOM's response to changes in today's social environment and represents ICOM's contribution to social development. The general theme of ICOM-ASPAC 2015 is Pathways for Museums for a Sustainable Society with four subthemes, as follows: a) Culture, Museums and Sustainable Development, b) Culture, Museums and Urban Sustainability, c) Museums and Cross Cultural Communication, d) Creating Sustainable Museums and Communities. Allies in government and non government development sectors are also invited to join and synergize with the ICOM-ASPAC.

While ICOM's partners are individually positioning themselves beyond the heritage field to expand their roles as cultural driving forces for sustainable development, the United Nations' recent decision to adapt 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development underscores the need for ICOM to unify the efforts of its members to create the greatest possible impact. The 2015 ICOM-ASPAC Conference and General Assembly is an important step towards answering this challenge. Located in one of the most diverse and culturally rich but at the same time, most vulnerable natural environment in the world, the ICOM-ASPAC gathering an opportunity for the international ICOM community to recognize its role in defining, promoting and implementing sustainable development theory and practices in museums.

The upcoming conference is the second of three phases of the ICOM-ASPAC 2015. The last phase will be the publication and/or online dissemination of the conference results to the ICOM network, partners, participants and the public.
