CAMOC, the ICOM International Committee for the Collections and Activities
of Museums of Cities has the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the
International Conference on "Participative Strategies in Documenting the
Changing Urban World", which they will organize in Berlin, 31 Oct.-3 Nov.
2011.

The first two days of the conference (*October 31st to November 1st,
2011*) will
be organized jointly with the International Committee on Collecting (COMCOL)
and the ICOM Regional Committee for Europe at Dahlem Museums,
Berlin/Germany, under the theme "Participative Strategies".



From *November 2nd to 3rd, 2011* each committee will organize its own
programme and excursion. On November 2nd CAMOC will focus on the
documentation of the changing urban world and will meet at two venues
consecutively; first at the Kreuzberg Museum, and then at the Bookshop Pro
qm, a themed bookshop on the city of Berlin, politics, pop, economic
commentary, architecture, design, art & theory, which is meant to be a forum
for public discussion and movement. For the last day, the Committee will be
hosted at the IFAU (Institut für Angewandte Urbanistik),* *and will organise
a thematic city tour on Berlin architecture and urban development guided by
architects of IFAU.

We are confident that the programme of lectures and adjunct activities will
attract your attention, as it promises to offer many opportunities for very
fruitful and insightful discussions. A preliminary programme for each day is
available further below. The abstracts of the papers will be uploaded in our
website in September. So watch out for updates.

The programme includes registration, welcome speeches, keynote
presentations, an evening reception at Dahlem Museums and visiting
exhibitions at Museum of Asian Art, Ethnological Museum and Museum of
European Cultures.



Featured keynote speakers include Renée Kistemacker of the Amsterdam
Historical Museum, Professor Franck Eckardt of the Bauhaus University
(Weimar) and Chrischené Julius, Head of the Collections, Research and
Documentation Department of the District Six Museum in South Africa.
