Two items:

1. An unfortunate but classic situation has arisen regarding the
removal of names from ICOM-L. If you wish to leave this list
please note:

- Instructions about unsubscribing are provided at the end of
every single message that is sent to the list.

- Detailed instructions about such matters are also sent to every
new subscriber and include a very seriously intended admonition
about saving those instructions for further reference.

- Sending unsubscription requests to the list, itself, is not one
of the alternative procedures for changing subscription
settings.

- ICOM-L is an automated e-mail distribution list. The only way
to join it is by using the automated subscription facility (or by
being a member of ICOM's Advisory Committee or Executive Council)
and list members are expected to use the same means if they wish
to leave.

2. This list is intended for the discussion of matters explicitly
related to ICOM's corporate activity. A separate list, MUSEUM-L,
is maintained for issues of a general museological nature. This
includes topics that are not specific to ICOM even if they are of
obvious interest to ICOM members.

>From time to time a discussion thread is initiated on ICOM-L
without its relevance being entirely clear. The first few
messages are given the benefit of the doubt but if ensuing
contributions don't converge on the ICOM-L target, the discussion
will be referred to a more appropriate forum.

The current discussion about financing museum inventories is a
case in point. The contributions currently in the queue will be
distributed. Any further submissions will be expected to be more
directly focused on ICOM. Alternatively, and perhaps more
productively, you may wish to direct the general commentary about
inventory issues to MUSEUM-L.
