Dear Amalia Castelli and Gladys Barrios

I have no words to say how sorry I am - and to apologize to ICOM members and
to all those people who were interested in the conference - for the
cancellation of the conference in Florence Disabled people and cultural
heritage (28th and 29th November 2003), conference which ICOM Italy had
patronized and communicated among the international community.

The cancellation of the conference does not depend on ICOM Italy but
directly to the conference organizers, and namely to Regione Toscana
(Tuscany Regional body) and to Amministrazione Comunale di Firenze (Florence
city Council).

Many public Italian institutions cannot be trusted; this is the reason why
ICOM Italy meets so many difficulties when organizing conferences and
hosting international committees meetings.

As for the conference issue, I perfectly agree in considering it extremely
interesting and I hope that some other ICOM national committee can be
supported more seriously by public institutions and will be ready to take
the place of Regione Toscana and of Comune di Firenze in organizing the
conference.

ICOM Italy would be pleased to participate and, if necessary to cooperate to
the success of the enterprise.
