INTERCOM 2003 Canberra, Australia

Title: The Management of Museum Developments

Date: 19/20 November 2003, preceded by optional tours of Sydney
museums 17 November 2003 and followed by optional tour of Melbourne
museums 21 November 2003.

Registration: pm 18 November 2003

Location: Telstra Theatre, Australian War Memorial CANBERRA Australia.
The AWM has recently undergone a A$35M refurbishment and development of
its galleries. It is currently Australia's Number 1 Major Tourist
Attraction and has very innovative multi-media presentations.

Scope: In recent years there have been unprecedented building and
redevelopment programs in the museum sector. Some have been major
'greenfield' developments; others programs of renewal while the
institution continued to operate.

This conference seeks to examine how such projects can be managed
effectively while delivering quality outcomes within the restraints of
budget and time.

At some time in their careers, most museum professionals will be
involved in such a project. They are challenging and demanding and a
failure to achieve, and a disappointment by the public in the result,
can materially affect the standing of the institution for many years
afterwards.

This will be a stimulating two day conference drawing on recent
practical experiences in both small and major institutions. A series of
pre and post conference tours will contribute to make this an
outstanding event.

Call for papers: A synopsis (no more than 200 words) of proposed
papers is sought by 14 August, with advice of acceptance by 29 August.
Papers of 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions are envisaged.

Information on Accommodation/booking arrangements are being developed.
