The recent flurry of activity in restructuring ICOM-L was
intended to serve two purposes. The one was to enable a broader
and more convenient point of contact between the International
Council of Museums and the network community that it hopes to
serve. The second was to transcend the formal boundaries of
ICOM's committee structure and provide members of the various
committees with a forum for discussion of subjects of joint
interest.

There are numerous substantive issues that I would like to see
discussed here but before instigating any further, I am eager to
learn what the list's members were expecting of it when they
joined. The administrative announcements that you've been
subjected to during the past few weeks have driven a surprisingly
small number of faint-hearted members to resign (leaving around
840 people to receive this message). The rest of you are
presumably hoping that something of interest will soon happen
here.

Perhaps we could get the ball rolling with your speaking up about
exactly what this might be. Personal introductions would be a
welcome and useful part of this process. (I'll chime in about
myself when it seems appropriate but have probably already
contributed far more than my fair share of verbiage.)

It might also be useful if the ICOM Committees could provide some
information about their current activities.
