Alissandra Cummins, Barbados, has been elected Chairperson of the Advisory
Committee (and ex officio member of the Executive Council, for 1998 -
2001) on the first ballot.  Her vote of 62 compared with a total of 39 for
the other three candidates combined gave her an absolute majority.

The remaining elections will take place in one week's time on Friday 17th
October.
