Advance Information

Joint Conference:

This year, ICOM MPR has decided to join colleagues from the AAM to stage a
joint conference. The Board of MPR felt that this would give our American
colleagues the opportunity to share their experience with us, while at the
same time presenting a greater opportunity to build the membership of MPR.

Papers:

An invitation is extended to all members of ICOM MPR to put forward papers on
the conference theme " Cultural Heritage Tourism" for consideration and
selection. An abstract of these papers should be sent directly to the
Secretary of ICOM MPR, Mrs. Barbara Hope. The authors of papers, deemed to be
of sufficient interest and challenge, will be invited to submit their final
presentations for consideration and scheduling. No paper abstract received
after JULY 1ST will be considered and the board reserves the right to select
only those presentations that it feels will best contribute to the conference
theme and programme. Please indicate what audio-visual aids you will require
when submitting your paper for selection.

Conference Organiser:

ICOM MPR has decided to contract the services of a professional conference
organiser and travel agency to oversee the logistical requirements for the
conference. An announcement of the successful tender will be made at a later
date.

Post-Conference Tour:

With past experience in mind, only one post-conference tour option will be
offered to delegates on a first come, first served basis. The tour will be to
New York City and will include museum visits to MoMa and the American Museum
of Natural History as well as giving opportunity for sightseeing, shopping and
entertainment options. The post conference tour will be costed separately and
managed by the conference organiser ( above )

Budget:

Full conference / post conference tour costs will be forwarded by Fax or
email to those members who register interest. A draft budget is currently
being formulated and will be placed online on ICOM MPR's homepage on the
Internet World Wide Web. The address is: http://www.icom.org/MPR/

Those members without e mail facilities can register their interest in the
conference by writing or faxing to the secretary:
Mrs Barbara Hope, Head of Education, Public Programmes and Marketing, National
Museums and Galleries on Merseyside, PO BOX 33, Liverpool, United Kingdom
L693LA. Fax: (44 ) 151 4784 777. E mail: [log in to unmask]
