It is with great sorrow that I record that Raymond Singleton died
yesterday afternoon (27 March)
at the age of 85. He was an active ICOM member and Chairman of ICTOP
from 1968-74, Many will remember him as a pioneer in the development
of postgraduate museum training and he was responsible for
establishing the Department of Museum Studies at the University of
Leicester which he directed from 1966-77. He had a distinguished
museum career in the UK and held museum appointments at Nottingham,
Liverpool and Sheffield - the latter as Director - before taking up
the Leicester appointment. He is survived by his widow, Hilda, a son
and a daughter.
