I teach an Introduction to Museum Work Course for North Dakota State
University in Fargo, North Dakota (USA).

While this isn't an approved definition of "museum", it is one that I've put
together that might be worth some discussion. I'd appreciate any input!

My definition of a museum is: a place that preserves and shares cultural
objects and information as well as a place that inspires and responds to its
diverse communities. My definition has changed from the standard, to
collect, preserve, and interpret the... because museums are more than their
functions, they are places that have a soul and meaning to them. They should
be safe places for dialogue to take place for diverse communities.

Thanks.
