I send you the following proposal for a very short definition of 
museum, in two languages (sorry, but I am not able to translate it into 
spanish):

Le Musées sont des lieux de mémoire, de connaissance et de crèation 
d'identité qui s'accomplissent à travers la collection, la préservation 
et la transmission du patrimoine culturel des communnautés.

Museums are sites of memory, knowledge, creation of identity which act 
through collecting, taking care,  interpreting and  exhibiting the 
cultural heritage of communities.
