Some Background to the Art Gallery of NSW and its Collections:
==============================================================
The Art Gallery of New South Wales is the state's leading fine art museum
and one of Australia's most popular cultural institutions.

The Art Gallery's principal strengths are our collections of Australian,
Asian and contemporary art. A major feature is the Yiribana gallery, which
houses the most comprehensive presentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander art in Australia. In addition to paintings and sculptures, the
Gallery also has extensive holdings of photography, drawings, watercolours
and artists' prints.

The Art Gallery also holds more than thirty temporary exhibitions annually,
many with related public programmes.

The exhibitions:
================
* Every Day: 11th Biennale of Sydney
  - The southern hemisphere's pre-eminent contemporary art event.

* A material thing: Objects from the Collection
  - Three-dimensional artworks from the Gallery's "Yiribana" Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander collection.

* Lion Among Painters: Chinese Master Chang Dai Chien (Zhang Daiqian)
  - The last great traditionalist of literati painting and a pioneer of
modernism.

* Australian Collection Focus Series: Tom Roberts "Bailed Up" 1895/1927
  - An in-depth look at one of the most popular paintings in Australia.

* Dark Visions: The Etchings of Goya
  - Approx. 100 etchings from the collection of the Art Gallery of South
Australia.

* Arcadia: nineteenth century Australian photography
  - Photographs of the Australian land between 1870 and 1900.

* Ken Unsworth
  - One of Australia's most respected and popular contemporary sculptors
