Seminar

Teamwork for Integrated Emergency Management for South East Europe

18th August 2007

Vienna - Austria

TIEM (Teamwork for Integrated Emergency Management) is a joint project of
ICOM (International Council of Museums), The Getty Conservation Institute
(GCI) and ICCROM (International Center for the Study of the Preservation and
Restoration of Cultural Property). It is organized in the framework of the
MEP (Museums Emergency Program). MEP is multi-faceted programme launched by
ICOM and is a response to the needs expressed by museum professionals all
over the world to develop expertise in the areas of emergency preparedness
and response, focusing on safeguarding museum buildings and collections from
the effects of natural and human-made emergencies.

The program is a strategic, multi-year project that aims to assist museum
and other heritage professionals to advance understanding and awareness of
the nature of natural and human-made disasters and how to limit and contain
damage through preventive conservation measures and rapid intervention to
save cultural heritage, with the involvement of local communities and
respect for local traditions, techniques and know-how. Education plays a
vital role within MEP's overall strategy of enhancing emergency preparedness
and response capabilities. (For further details, visit:
