Vacancy Description

School of Art History, Salary: £43,414 - £53,353 per annum, Start: 4 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Contemporary Art History (1980-present day), with expertise in any field of visual culture or media in one of the following areas: Asia, the Middle East, North Africa. This new post is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Art History at the University of St Andrews, and to develop teaching and research that will complement and enhance existing staff expertise in the arts of Africa, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Japan and China. 

You will join our growing team of researchers in art history and museum and heritage studies, and be expected to offer attractive and accessible research-led undergraduate courses in your area of expertise. You will be required to contribute to our team-teaching of first- and second-year survey modules as well as courses at postgraduate level, and to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. You will be developing an active research portfolio, with evidence of capability to produce research outputs that will contribute to our reputation as one of the leading Art History departments in the UK. Like other members of the School, you will take on administrative roles as required by the Head of School. There will also be the opportunity to become involved in running the St Andrews Centre for Contemporary Art, which is based in the School. 

Key skills and attributes:
You should already have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Contemporary Art History of Asia/the Middle East/North Africa

Demonstrable evidence of, or of the capacity to produce, excellent research outputs (this could include publications, exhibitions, conference papers, and partnership working) A commitment to teaching and pedagogical development Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
