The Wisconsin Maritime Museum has an opening for a part-time Research & Library Assistant. 10 hours a week with potential for increased hours. 


Research and Library Assistant

Part time: 10 hours/week
Hourly salary: $10 - $13 DOE
Open until filled


Essential Job Functions: 

This position reports to the Director of Collections & Registration and supports the Wisconsin Maritime Museum by fulfilling research requests and providing research services to patrons. This position will also assist in the management of the Museum’s archive and library materials and contribute to updating policies and procedures for processing archival materials according to best practices.  

Responsibilities include:

•	Replying to online/electronic and telephonic research requests
•	Conducting research and providing information to patrons
•	Administer research center policies and handling procedures governing the use of archival materials 
•	Scan photos and archival materials
•	Deliver blueprints and drawing to outside vendor for reproduction, as needed
•	Assist with processing new archival collections in various formats; organizing Archives Storage as needed, and developing appropriate finding aids 
•	Provide research assistance for Museum programs and publications 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Information Science & Technology or related area of study; one year related experience or an equivalent educational background in libraries, archives, or historical professions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•	Knowledge of general archival and library principles, practices, and concepts, especially as they relate to public services work
•	Knowledge of research strategies and methods, archives and library reference tools, and sources used in genealogical and local history research
•	Ability to train and lead student workers, explaining, delegating, and monitoring tasks
•	Effective computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet creation and manipulation, data entry, and database searching

The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage confidential information, show excellent judgment, prioritize and maintain multiple projects, and demonstrate flexibility and a professional work ethic.
