Dear ICOM members,
The International Council of Museums is pleased to announce the first International Conference of the International Committee of the Blue Shield (ICBS). The International Conference will be held in Seoul, South Korea from 8 to 10 December 2011, and will be hosted by the National Museum of Korea.
The theme of the Conference, Protecting the World's Cultural Heritage in Times of Change: Emergency Preparedness and Response, will be developed through distinct diverse subjects. The topics, addressed by renowned international speakers, are as follows:
* The impacts of natural disasters and environmental changes
* Protecting heritage during military conflicts and political crises
* Protecting cultural heritage through the recognition of its diversity
* New technologies, new risks, new responses
* Preparedness and response at the regional and local level
* Improving the protection of cultural heritage, a global approach
This significant international event will bring together professionals and experts in museology, documentation and in the protection and promotion of heritage and sites. The International Conference will also benefit from the valuable input and expertise of professionals in the military, humanitarian, meteorological and technological disciplines.
The Conference will help improve cross-sector knowledge, practices and collaboration in order to enhance the preservation and protection of the world's cultural heritage. Participating experts will discuss and share ideas and case studies on major issues concerning heritage protection in times of natural and man-made disasters.
The International Council of Museums invites the world museum community to join in this major international event and partake in the collaborative effort to preserve cultural heritage.

Le Conseil international des Musées est heureux d'annoncer la première Conférence internationale du Comité international du Bouclier Bleu (ICBS), qui se tiendra du 8 au 10 décembre prochain au Musée National de Corée, à Séoul, en République de Corée.
Le thème de la conférence, Protéger le patrimoine culturel de l'humanité dans une époque de changements : la préparation et la réponse à l'urgence, sera développé à travers plusieurs sujets distincts :
* Les impacts des catastrophes naturelles et des changements environnementaux
* La protection du patrimoine dans les contextes de conflits armés et de crises politiques
* La protection du patrimoine culturel à travers la reconnaissance de sa diversité
* Nouvelles technologies, nouveaux risques, nouvelles réponses
* La préparation et la réponse au niveau local et régional
* Améliorer la protection du patrimoine culturel, une approche globale
Cet événement international de premier plan rassemblera des professionnels du patrimoine et des experts de la muséologie, de la documentation et de la protection et la valorisation du patrimoine et des sites. La Conférence internationale bénéficiera aussi de l'apport de l'expertise de professionnels du secteur militaire, humanitaire, météorologique et technologique.
La Conférence servira à l'amélioration des savoirs, des pratiques et des collaborations intersectorielles, afin de renforcer la préservation et la protection du patrimoine culturel de l'humanité. Les experts participant à l'événement discuteront et échangeront des idées et des études de cas sur les enjeux majeurs qui touchent à la protection du patrimoine en cas de catastrophe naturelle ou de conflit humain.
Le Conseil international des Musées invite la communauté muséale mondiale à se joindre à cet événement international majeur et à participer à un effort commun pour la préservation du patrimoine culturel.

El Consejo Internacional de Museos se complace en anunciar la primera Conferencia Internacional del Comité Internacional del Escudo Azul (ICBS). La Conferencia Internacional tendrá lugar en Seúl, Corea del Sur, del 8 al 10 de Diciembre de 2011. La misma será celebrada en el Museo Nacional de Corea, quien acoge el evento.
El tema de la Conferencia, Protegiendo el Patrimonio Cultural Mundial en Tiempos de Cambio: Preparación y Reacción ante las Situaciones de Emergencia, será desarrollado a través de diferentes temas. Abordados por ponentes de renombre internacional, los temas serán los siguientes:
* Los impactos de desastres naturales y medioambientales
* Protegiendo el patrimonio en tiempos de conflicto armado y crisis políticas
* Protegiendo el patrimonio cultural a través del reconocimiento de su diversidad
* Nuevas tecnologías, nuevos riesgos, nuevas respuestas
* Preparación y reacción a nivel regional y local
* Mejorando la protección del patrimonio cultural, un enfoque global
Este importante evento internacional reunirá a profesionales y expertos en museología, documentación y en la protección y promoción del patrimonio y de sitios patrimoniales. La Conferencia Internacional beneficiará también de la valiosa contribución y experiencia de profesionales en el campo militar, humanitario, meteorológico y tecnológico.
La Conferencia ayudará a mejorar las relaciones intersectoriales entre conocimientos, prácticas y colaboraciones a fin de valorizar la conservación y protección del patrimonio cultural mundial. Los expertos dialogarán y compartirán ideas y estudios de caso sobre la protección del patrimonio en tiempos de desastres naturales o conflicto humano.
El Consejo Internacional de Museos invita a la comunidad museal a unirse en este gran evento internacional y participar en el esfuerzo cooperativo de preservar el patrimonio cultural.
