Dear Giovanni and Yani and others interested in the subject,

I would be surprised if you did not find publications on this, for
instance from UK and USA. I am sure "Resource"
http://www.resource.gov.uk/index.html)
in UK and AAM in USA will have relevant information.

In Norway, the Norwegian Library, Museum and Archive Authority
http://www.abm-utvikling.no/
in co-operation with "Deltasenteret"
http://www.delta.oslo.no/
(both have short versions of their web-pages in English)
arranges a conference titled "Hoere, lukte, foele, se - kulturarv uten
hindring" (Hear, smell, feel, see - cultural heritage without hindrance)
in Oslo September 29-30. It will all be in Norwegian, but may of course
also be of interest for those knowing one of the other Scandinavian
languages.

Deltasenteret has the following English name: National Resource Centre for
Participation by and Accessability for People with Disabilities. It is a
government institution under the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.

Already before the conference, Norges Handikapforbund (Norwegian
Association of the Disabled)
http://www.nhf.no/
(also with English version of web pages)
went to the press and attacked the national authorities dealing with
national monuments like medieval stave churches, antique ships, etc, and
pointed out that they allowed changes connected to some modern demands,
but not those of the disabled. Which resulted in an article by a
journalist claiming that some of the demands of the org. of the disabled
would in effect destroy national monuments, and that they were too
extreme.

This is a promising prelude to the conference. There is a tendency that
politicians and others in responsible positions pay lip service to the
disabled, avoiding confrontations, but afterwards very little action is
taken. Better then to have real confrontations, staking out what can - and
indeed - what cannot be done.

Kind regards
Per

Grazie, Giovanni.
Thank-you for sending this important information to ICOM members.
Even though so much has been advanced in this matter, which in
architecture is called accesability, there is still many things to do.
In Mexico, in the Architecture School, I am orgabizing a Seminar on this
issue mainly to create a) awareness of the issue and b) promote de
international standards on accesibability.
So, if there is someone who may send me information on this matter,
please send them to me via this List.
