Dear ICOM-Colleagues,

Further to DEFINITION:

what about these slight changes ( 1 omission vs. 4 additions) to the
latest version of Bernice Murphy's definition of a museum,
which then would read like this:
"A museum is a not for profit institution for the public benefit on a
permanent basis, that conserves, produces and communicates knowledge of
the natural world and the cultural inheritance of humanity through
working with collections, records, memories, images, and sites, which it
cares for, researches, interprets and makes accessible, in public trust,
for present and future generations."

(previous version:
"Museums are permanent institutions that conserve and communicate knowledge
of the natural world and the cultural inheritance of humanity through
collections, records, memories, images, and sites they care for, research
and interpret, in public trust, for present and future generations.")

I am looking forward and curious to read further thoughts and comments.
