The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is looking for a new
Secretary General following the appointment of Elisabeth Des
Portes as Director General of an important French international
association from January 1998. This is the Chief Executive
Officer post for the world body for museums, established in 1946,
which has over 13,000 members in 140 countries, 25 specialist
International Committees and 120 National Committees.
The post is based on ICOM's headquarters in UNESCO, Paris, though
much international travel is involved. The gross salary (subject
to the usual French taxes) begins at 400,000 French Francs per
year (about US$69,000 per year) and will increase according to
experience. Under the ICOM Statutes a three year contract is
offered, but this may be renewed. [The person appointed will be
only the sixth director/secretary general in ICOM's 51 year
history].
Interviews will be held in Paris in Janaury 1998 (expenses paid):
